The Pitfalls Of Web Design

March 31st, 2011

In the modern market of today, business is being done online more and more. There are now lots of companies that have abandoned the traditional model of offices and warehouses for a more disconnected but far cheaper online-only presence. With this fundamental shift in business, it’s now more important than ever to have a website that functions well.

This goes far beyond it just looking good, it has to have that and more. There are now some accepted common bad practices amongst web designers, and it is useful to know about these in order to avoid them with your own site. This is still a problem that affects a lot of sites, from the cheapest template site to the most expensive bespoke web design. The biggest offenders are below:

- Layout
This is by far one of the biggest reasons that sites do not convert well. It is all well and good having an exciting and innovative design that look amazing, but if it hinders the navigation and usage of the site it is pointless. Peoplecome to expect a certain layout from a page; navigation at the top, content in the middle and footer at the bottom. Any break in these traditions can really confuse people, especially older users.

- Adverts
Obviously, I understand that many good quality sites rely on banner and sidebar ads to exist. I have no problem with this, however, I do with pop ups and pop under ads. These are unnecasary, annoying and break the flow of website use. Avoid them at all costs if you possibly can.

- Over SEO-ing
Again, I understand the need for SEO. Without it your site will languish at the bottom of the rankings before slowly climbing up, so SEO is great for getting you site noticed. However, if it is to the detrement of the site it is pointless. Make sure keyword density is not too high and the content of the site still reads well. It may well be worth considering email marketing or PPC management when your site is starting up, so that you dont have an over reliance on SEO.

Why The Logo Is Important

October 27th, 2009

The logo is important for many reasons.

The first reason is because it gives the company some identity and this is very important simply because people like to see a business with a bit of individuality.

To start off with, you should be looking into logo examples just so they can start to see some of the best logos out there and why they are successful.
The logo design is very important as if you do not have a decent looking logo then the chances are you will not have enough people coming to you for your business.
So as you can see those company logos really do come in handy when bringing in the sales for your business.

I love it when I stumble across a website that I know I’m going to return to again and again. The Online Guitar Directory is just one such site.

Being a keen guitarist for many years I’m often surfing for guitars, tutorials, the latest guitar news etc. So this specialist niche directory was made for people like me. It’s immediately added to my favourite bookmarks and if you’re a fellow guitarist you will probably want to do the same.

Pay The Online Guitar Directory a visit today and take a look at what’s out there for guitarists.
